Starting An Online Import Business (Part 3)

If you miss the previous posts, read them here:

So far, we’ve seen the roles the market and price play in an online import business. Today, we will continue with our course by taking a look at another essential factor that must be considered before launching an online import business:

Where To Source For Suppliers

It will interest you to know that most of the suppliers in Dubai actually got their goods or products from China, USA or UK. So, why wasting money flying to Dubai when you can actually get the same quality of goods (at cheaper prices) from online stores in China, USA or UK without leaving the comfort of your home.

Where To Source For Suppliers For Online Import Business

The type of supplier you get your goods from will determine whether your online import business will be a success or not. After getting a hungry market and the right product to satisfy their hunger, it is time to source for suppliers that will help you supply the products at a reasonable price.

Note that it is essential you get samples of the product you intend to import in order to check its quality and also show to your customers.

Ensure you buy your products from the seller that offers you a price cheaper than your local market price. Also, ensure that what you order for is of good quality. This is why it is essential to request for samples before buying in bulk.

Depending on where you want to buy, you can get suppliers from both the Chinese and American stores. Some Chinese stores where you can get products at dead cheap prices are:

  • Alibaba.com

  • Aliexpress.com

  • Dhgate.com

  • Lightinthebox.com

  • Dealextreme.com

  • Chinavasion.com

  • Centralcomputers.com

  • Taobao.com (the ebay version of china)

  • Epathchina.com

  • Tinydeal.com

The most interesting thing about these Chinese stores is that some of them offer free shipping to Nigeria (although it may take time if it’s not free shipping through DHL or FEDEX).

American e-commerce sites where you can import from include:

  • Ebay.com

  • Amazon.com

  • Cellularcountry.com

  • Mobilekarma.com

  • Cowboom.com

The major challenge with the American stores is the issue of making payments and getting your goods here in Nigeria. This is because most of them use PayPal as mode of payment and do not ship to Nigeria. That is no more a problem because a way around the situation will be revealed in this blog.

Both the Chinese and American stores stated earlier will be dealt with in greater details in subsequent posts.

Note that you don’t need to start this business with a container-load of goods. You can start with as low as N15,000. In fact, I started mine with approximately N 12,000 just to test the waters. How to achieve this is the aim of this blog. If you stick to this blog, all the secrets will be revealed at zero cost.

In the next post, we will look at the forms in which payment can be made in an online import business.
